Street creeper

I found this strange creature on a lamppost outside the Excelsior Ristorante. I instantly recognized it as the monster from A Wind in the Door, one of the novels in Madeline L’Engle’s Time Quartet. It’s called Proginoskes, and it’s a cherubim, a being with countless wings and eyes that shift around its body. It’s a nightmarish idea, but it makes for some good street art, especially when pasted against a black pole next to the wrought iron gates of an old haunted house. In any case, Proginoskes was actually a good guy in the series–protagonist Meg traveled to distant realms through his eyes. That makes it less creepy, right?
